"Drums and rums podcast" episode 93: Look Up and Smile - Drummer Danny Patterson
(4/5/2022)

I catch up via Zoom with Danny Patterson, pro drummer with over 30 years of drumming experience. He's a session drummer and currently performs in the Houston area. We talk about performing with his dad for over 30 years who he last in 2021 and releasing EP as a tribute to his dad, Sonny Patterson. Danny also shares with me some of the gear he uses like a unique drum throne created by a chiropractor. Also, there's a Blues Brothers reference.

"UP & COMING DRUMMER PODCAST" EPISODE 47 (1/2019)

My guest Danny Patterson will be there enjoying the festivities! I hope any of you taking a road trip today will sit back, relax, and listen to my conversation with one of the hardest working drummers I’ve ever talked to! Danny represents a lot of really cool companies and bands, so it’s really cool to hear the story of how a guy like anyone of us, made drums his job!

HERE WE ARE CD REVIEW FROM "HOUSTON MUSIC REVIEW" (3/13/2018)

Carlos and Maddy have been spending a great deal of time in the studios writing and recording a previously unnamed CD for months. Finally, we have the next studio produced disc of “chamber rock” from Mystery Loves Company coming out. “Here We Are” includes some completely new compositions as well as some that MLC has been playing for a few years (“Numbers and Lines”, “Someday” and “The Impossibility of Us”), but as yet had not included on a studio recording.

THE ALBUM PREVIEW SHOW REVIEW FROM "HOUSTON MUSIC REVIEW" (12/2/2017)

The first thing that struck me about the evening was how much better MLC sounded with the drummer in the line-up, accenting all of the movements and flourishes. The other thing that I was able to take home is that the band has taken on quite a project with “Here We Are” and I didn’t wait long to get my preorder for the disc in to the website, preorder.mysteryloves.com. I still find the band riveting in a live venue and would recommend attending one of their shows whenever you get the chance.

THE HEARING REVIEW (4/22/2017)

Based in Houston, drummer Danny Patterson plays a lot of gigs. Whether he’s playing in a local bar, out on tour, or in church, he depends on his Sensaphonics 3D AARO in-ears with Active Ambient technology, Sensaphonics announced.

LSI ONLINE (4/20/2017)

Like countless other professional musicians, Patterson regularly works on several projects. “Last year, I played drums and percussion in 17 different bands, some regular, some one-offs, and the occasional tour,” he notes. “It forces me to adjust to a lot of different playing styles, which keeps me growing and improving all the time. It’s an approach based on the careers of a couple of drummers I really admire – Kenny Aronoff and Mark Schulman.”

FRONT OF HOUSE ONLINE (4/19/2017)

Currently, Patterson works with six Houston area groups, including Mystery Loves Company, a chamber rock ensemble that plays originals. He also gigs with cover bands Bristol Fashion (80s rock/pop) and Johnny & The Spinsations (50s and 60s rock’n’roll), and plays most Sundays at Grace Family Church in suburban Spring, TX. When singer-songwriter William Florian (ex-New Christie Minstrels) tours Texas, Patterson gets the call. His 3D AARO in-ears help him to adapt smoothly to whatever conditions he might encounter.

IF HEAVEN SINGLE REVIEW FROM "INDIE MUSIC REVIEW" (3/17/2017)

Mystery Loves Company uses Herdeman’s skill as a conservatory-trained cellist and Machado’s self-taught songwriter and guitar talents to draw the listener into a richly humanistic world brought forth by natural acoustics, engaging vocals, and relevant lyrical themes regarding modern culture. The duo is rounded out by Jeremy Dudman (bass), Danny Patterson (drums), and Alauna Rubin (clarinet). The band will be releasing its 3-track EP, Revolutions, on April 7th.

MCGONIGEL’S MUCKY DUCK SHOW REVIEW FROM "HOUSTON MUSIC REVIEW" (2/17/2017)

The duo has amped it up and grown to a killer five piece that graced the stage at this acoustic gem and it sounded wonderful. Alauna Rubin (clarinet), Jeremy Dudman (bass), and Danny Patterson (drums) are the welcome additions who bolster the main stay duo up front. Getting a full rare time slot with 7:30pm start enhanced the experience big time and they got a nice crowd, too. Maddy’s first written song ever kicked it off, “Muddy Blue”, complete with finger snappin’ tempo. The lady has dolled her cute self up and can turn on the sexy jammin’ on her cello which in itself sounds odd, but so true. The bluesy soulful nature of their vocals backed by clarinet is a dynamite mix backed by thumping bass and strong skins.

KEEPING THE WONDER ALIVE FOR THE "THE NSAVIDES PODCAST" (1/6/2017)

On tour, the band has expanded to include Alauna Rubin on clarinet, Jeremy Dudman on bass, and Danny Patterson on drums, but Carlos and Maddy remain the driving force behind Mystery Loves Company. However they came together, Carlos and Maddie—both singer-songwriters—have produced a number of songs that marvel at the possibilities of vulnerable human connections.
